Massage techniques that focus on the chest region help promote the circulation and distribution of
pectoral qi inside the chest cavity, and are also beneficial to conditions like chest tightness, chest stuffiness, cough, breathing difficulties, and palpitations.
- Rub the chest and knead acupoints: knead forcefully on tan zhong (Rn 17, middle sternum, zhong fu (Lu 1, depression in front of shoulder joint), and finally around the nipples; do this 20 times. Then use finger tips to rub along the intercostal spaces on the opposite side, apply firmly from inner to outer direction, from the top rib to the bottom rib.
- Grasp the pectoral muscles: press the thumb under the shoulder joint, insert the index and middle fingers into the armpit, slowly and gently grasp the tissues in between the fingers; apply on both sides, and for 5 times.
- Clap the chest: make one hand in a half fist and clap on the chest, up and down, along the middle and bilateral lines of chest, for about 10 times on each line. Try not to hold the breath while clapping.
- Rub the chest: use the palms to scrub the chest, apply forcefully from inner to outer sides, about 20 times. These should create a warmth feeling.
