Herbal Bathing and Washing

Take a hot bath or soak in warm water can relax the muscles and promote the circulation of the limbs. It is a Chinese tradition to apply herbs in bathing, steaming or soaking methods. The effective components of herbs are absorbed through the body surface, entered blood stream to regulate the organs and promote the functions of the body. This is also effective in relieving localized pain, swelling and stiffness. Selection of herbs is usually based on specific conditions. Below are suitable herbal applications for the symptoms of restless legs syndrome (RLS).

Steaming prescription

Argy wormwood leaf, honeysuckle stem, garden balsam stem, ephedra, suberect spatholobus stem, capillary wormwood herb, and caltrop fruit, 1500g each. Motherwort herb 1000g, and schizonepeta herb, cassia twig, mulberry mistletoe, ledebouriella root, common cnidium fruit, perilla leaf, and acorus, 500g each.

Method

Keep the steam room temperature at 35-45C°, stay inside for 30-45minutes, and 7 times as a course of treatment.

Bathing prescriptions

1) Erythrina bark, kadsura stem, mulberry twig, 500g each; siegesbeckia herb & star jasmine vine, 200g each; honeysuckle stem & suberect spatholobus stem, 100g each.

2) Ledebouriella root, pubescent angelica root, cassia twig, red peony root, angelica root, Sichuan lovage rhizome, suberect spatholobus stem, 60g each, himalayan teasel root, morinda root, trigonella seed, cyathula root, 150 each, and cibotium (100g).

Method

Decoct the above ingredients for 30 minutes. Keep the water temperature at 35-45C°, and soak for 15-30 minutes each time. Twice a week, 10 times as a course of treatment.

Foot soaking prescriptions

1) Garden balsam stem (30g), cassia twig (15g) and Chinese safflower (10g).

2) Erythrina bark, common clubmoss herb, and mulberry twig, 12g each; acanthopanax bark & Hirsute shiny bugleweed herb, 10g each; atractylodes rhizome & Chinese safflower, 6g each.

3) Ledebouriella root & argy wormwood leaf, 50g each.

4) Pubescent angelica root, pricklyash peel, argy wormwood leaf, cassia twig, mulberry leaf, Chinese safflower & garden balsam stem, 15g each.

5) Garden balsam stem (30g); Chinese safflower, acanthopanax bark, cassia twig, Dahurian angelica root, Sichuan lovage rhizome, erythrina bark, suberect spatholobus stem, common clubmoss herb, notopterygium root, pubescent angelica root, 20g each; Manchurian wildginger (15g).

Method

Decoct with 2000ml of water for 30 minutes, keep the solution hot. Soak for 30-60 minutes each time, twice a day, 14 days as a course of treatment.

It should be noted that the above herbal solutions are not suitable for oral administration, and also not advised to keep overnight. Be careful to control the water temperatures, elderly, children and bedridden individuals should have assistant aside during the process. In addition, wounds and acute skin infections are not suitable for the above methods. Individuals with hypertension, heart disease and skin problems should be done with caution. When there is allergic reaction, stop immediately.
