Scalp Acupuncture for Ear Ringing (Tinnitus)

Unlike traditional acupuncture where one needle is inserted into a single point, the needles in this therapy are subcutaneously inserted into whole sections of various zones. By stimulating the reflex areas of the scalp, this therapy is claimed to have a direct effect on the brain. Physicians often apply scalp acupuncture to treat conditions like central nervous system disorders, mental disorders, pain and sensory problems, and functional disturbances of the organs.

Ear ringing can easily disturb sleeping, communication and focusing abilities of individuals, which make their autonomic nervous system unstable. Scalp needling helps unwind the overstretched nervous system, regulating the sensitive nerve activities to slow down.

For ear ringing symptoms, physicians target the side area of the scalp that mainly responds to hearing and dizziness, where located 1.5 cm above the apex of the auricle, extending 2 cm horizontally forward and backward, corresponds to the functional reflection area of the auditory cortex on the scalp. This 4-cm long horizontal line is often for treating conditions such as dizziness, tinnitus, and hearing loss. Physicians will apply special needling techniques intermittently and then detain the needles on the area for 20 minutes.

The procedure will be done daily or every two days, 7 sessions as one course of treatment.
